Quite a different way to pass the weekend!

• Come for Tamjdem!

Tamjdem is a volunteering weekend project running in the Czech republic since 2007 under the patronage of Duha.  The project was founded by Czech exEVS volunteer which came back to CZ from his EVS service in Paris and was inspired by similar project there.

So what is Tamjdem? The word means There we go. The project is actually a micro-workcamp trying to bring volunteering closer to young people and enlarge their knowledge about different Czech NGOs. There is usually a group of 12 volunteers on Tamjdem – random get-together of EVS volunteers, outgoing Czechs, Tamjdem veterans as well as newcomers. Participants of Tamjdem spend weekends in an active way – helping and discovering an NGOs, meeting new interesting and open-minded people. Work on Tamjdem is coupled with an educational session which can be a workshop or a presentation related to the field of work of the partner organization. You can also train your abilities as organizers, since most of the weekends are the work of people who have come for previous Tamjdems.

We usually set off on Friday, work the whole Saturday, party in the night and do workshops, just have fun or go for a walk on Sunday. We cook together, usually sleep on the floor in the room together, play Frisbee and other serious games…

Where have we been so far? We cooperate with many different czech NGOs – aiming on different topics as we want to give a chance to volunteers to choose the most interesting NGOs for them. So we have helped on cultural festivals, organized activities with children from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, helped reconstructing objects of cultural heritage, took part in reparation of a hermitage in yoga center, cleaned a huge circus tent in an alternative theatre company, helped in center for environmental education, removed piles of firewood in a Buddhist cultural society.
